Noam Chomsky's Message to the World: Free Julian Assange

Noam Chomsky, a renowned linguist and dissident, along with former British Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and Pentagon Papers whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg, joined others earlier this year in urging President Biden to drop charges against Julian Assange. Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, has been held in London's Belmarsh prison for over four years, fighting extradition to the United States. If extradited and convicted, he could face a maximum sentence of 175 years in jail under the U.S. Espionage Act. Assange's publication of documents revealing U.S. war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan has been the basis for these charges. The Belmarsh Tribunal, organized by the Progressive International and the Wau Holland Foundation, took place at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., where excerpts of the event are presented in this hour-long program.
